This post is a tad late this week as I was away skiing in Austria all of last week! The scenery was beautiful and I eventually learned to ski! Me and my boyfriend love German food and as we were was on the border there was plenty of it, as well as plenty of beer. So back to reality….and back to trying to eat well (uh oh!). I have a major sweet tooth so found this recipe which can help to resolve my cravings without indulging too much! This recipe is a quick fix and super easy to make! Today was my last day of work before I am on holiday for a week- hooray! I think my excitement and positive energy went into this bake as I’m actually quite proud of myself today. For once the icing wasn’t a complete mess and it turned out sooo much better than I thought. I got to try out my new bundt tin too! This cake is super fruity, spongey and tangy, and so delicious. Okay so it isn’t quite Valentines yet but I like to plan in advance. I’m also away before and during Valentines so thought I would do a special post this week. I decided to adapt oreo brownies for the Valentines bake as it is possibly one of the only things I have baked and seen my boyfriend eat. (love you really) It wouldn’t make much sense if I made something he didn’t like. They’re honestly to die for! If you love chocolate or brownies, they’re amazing! They look pretty cool as well with the Oreos going through the middle and on the top.
We’re in Bedford again! I find that the town is really encouraging independent business to pop up and thrive. This weeks Coffee Date is back with my boyfriend who actually chose the destination this week. Safe to say I should definitely trust him to help me with this more often as it was a great find. We went to the Pavilion in Bedford Park. We had great luck with the weather too as the sun came out for the first time in what feels like weeks. It was a great day for a warm, crisp winter walk around the park to finish off in The Pavilion made it a perfect Sunday trip. I love a walk and I love a bit of cake!
My first pie on the blog, as well as the first pastry recipe. As I have mentioned in other posts my Gran baked some of the best cakes and pies. Every Monday there would be a pudding ready and waiting for after dinner. From the gooiest brownies to the yummiest steam sponge pudding I have ever had. This week, however, I wanted to do her Bakewell Tart. A favourite of mine which had a delicious nutty flavour with raspberry jam through the middle. This often would always be fresh out the oven as well with some cream to finish it off- delicious.
Where to start with Delices? Quite honestly I am struggling to know where as this shop blew me away this weekend. It’s honest and unique approach is a treasure I am yet to see anywhere else in the area. It is a place brimming with talent and beautiful food. If you want top quality ingredients, lovely service and authentic French cake you will fall in love with Delices. Tucked away near Bedford high street, the French shop sells a large variety of freshly made savoury and sweets which could grab anyone’s attention. (literally, I mean ANYONE) Continue reading “The Coffee Dates Series #6: Delices, Bedford”
This week I’m braving it and giving myself a challenge. I’ve always wanted to give macarons a go but have also thought to myself that I couldn’t do it. But really, it’s just finding the right recipe which doesn’t get too technical or uses equipment I don’t have. And so…I did it!…just. And if I can do it, anyone can with this simple recipe I found (well as simple as you can get for macarons!) Continue reading “Raspberry and White Chocolate Macarons”
